Roman Ruins of Conímbriga

Settled since prehistoric times, the site of Conímbriga was occupied by Roman troops in 139 a. C., thus becoming the prosperous capital of the province of Lusitania. Conímbriga is one of the largest Roman settlements excavated in Portugal, and was classified as a National Monument in 1910. Located in the civil parish of Condeixa-a-Velha e Condeixa-a-Nova, it is situated 16 kilometres from Coimbra.
